Lovell Later Living breaks ground on £45m Extra Care housing scheme in Gosport

Lovell Later Living has officially broken ground on a new multi-million development for 60 Extra Care homes on Willis Road in Gosport, Hampshire.

The exciting new scheme is being funded by Places for People Living Plus in partnership with Hampshire County Council as part of the council’s proposed £45m investment programme of Extra Care provision across Hampshire.

Supported by Gosport Borough Council, the Addenbrooke development underlines the County Council and its partner’s commitment to meeting the needs of local people as they get older.

The Extra Care scheme, designed by Re-Format Architecture and Design, will transform the Willis Road site into one and two-bedroom apartments for the over 55s. This will also include community facilities providing modern, independent living with access to 24-hour on-site care and support, if and when required. These apartments will be available as affordable housing through Places for People Living Plus, a specialist registered provider, who will own and operate the completed development.

Paula Broadbent, Managing Director of Lovell Later Living, commented: “I am excited for us to be building yet another vital Extra Care scheme in Hampshire. This, in addition to the Nightingale Lodge scheme in Romsey, which we are also developing in partnership with Hampshire County Council and Places for People Living Plus, marks significant progress in the response required to meet the needs for Extra Care across the county.

“It is testament to the commitment of all parties to protect the environment that the Extra Care scheme has finally commenced on site, having developed an innovative and sustainable, ecologically responsible solution which will allow the development to become an intrinsic part of the Gosport community.”

Paula added: “Continuing our commitment to support our partners deliver vital specialist housing with access to care and support, right in the heart of communities across Hampshire while being respectful of the need for environmental sustainability is at the forefront of Lovell Later Living business strategy and core values of the Morgan Sindall Group.

“The development will complete in the Spring of 2023 and we look forward to delivering a high-quality building which serves our partners and residents well, working alongside our sister company, Morgan Sindall Construction.

“Lovell Later Living continues to work closely with Hampshire County Council to accelerate developments across the county to offer aspirational solutions for people in later life. It is vital we create the right environment for people to live well and age well, by creating places which provide age appropriate housing with access to vital services and facilities supporting people to remain in their own home.”

Councillor Liz Fairhurst, Executive Lead Member for Adult Services and Public Health for Hampshire County Council said: “I am delighted that construction work is now underway at what will be a fantastic community asset for older people in Gosport. The County Council is committed to working with partners to deliver affordable housing for older people across Hampshire.
