Park Rise site visit marks commencement of residential occupancy in second phase of Havering ’12 Estates’ regeneration project

The London Borough of Havering and Wates’ Residential business have together achieved completion and residential occupancy at Park Rise, Hornchurch, the second scheme in the Havering ’12 Estates’ regeneration programme.

The Park Rise development is a testament to the Joint Venture’s commitment to providing high- quality affordable homes for all. Offering 175 high-quality homes tailored to form a retirement community village exclusively for individuals aged 55 and above, the development includes a mix of new council rented homes, shared ownership homes, and properties for sale. This underscores the JV’s dedication to making later living accessible to a broad demographic, ensuring affordability and inclusivity are at the forefront of the project.

To mark the second milestone in the partnership, Havering Council Cabinet were joined by senior figures from Wates to see first-hand how the development has created a vibrant community for residents, and also to understand the positive impact on the surrounding local community. As residents begin to move in later this month, Park Rise aims to continue to be a catalyst for social value, fostering social connections and contributing to the overall wellbeing of the area.

The delivery of Park Rise as a public and private model for later living residents is unique and provides a robust model of best practice for others to consider when looking at the ageing needs of populations. Through the blend of tenures Park Rise is able to challenge stereotypes and promote inclusivity. The retirement community village is designed to provide a comfortable and independent living experience for its residents, challenging preconceived notions about later life and ensuring comfort in ageing in the right place.

Councillor Williamson said: “It is great to be here today to see the site taking shape and the partnership between Havering Council and Wates going from strength to strength to deliver high-quality homes for local people that will allow residents to live independently.”

Hugh Jeffery, Regional Development Director for Wates Residential, commented: “Havering have been the perfect partner throughout every phase of the delivery at Park Rise, from early engagement on needs through to design, planning and construction. As we now progress to the operational phase, we are proud to be able to deliver an exemplar scheme that will allow residents to thrive.”
