Developer and contractor, Watson Homes, has received planning permission to build 27 new affordable homes on the former Lord Clive public house site in Whitefield.
The development will be delivered for registered provider, Onward Homes, to meet the demand for affordable homes in the area. When completed, the new homes will be made available by Onward Homes for affordable rent.
Located on Mersey Drive, the former pub closed its doors in January prior to the site being acquired by Onward Homes.
A total of 21 one-bedroom apartments and six two-bedroom apartments will be constructed over three storeys, offering a total living accommodation of almost 14,000 sq. ft. with landscaped private rear gardens.
On-site car parking spaces will be provided for 30 vehicles, offering full provision for all apartments. Entry to the development will be from Mersey Drive.
Designed by TADW Architects, the buildings will be finished to a high specification to complement the surrounding area. Each apartment will be equipped with Juliet balconies and interiors will be fitted to a high standard.
Construction is expected to begin in August, with completion anticipated by February 2022.
Rob Watson, Director at Watson Homes, said: “We worked closely with Onward Homes on these plans to provide much-needed, high-quality homes for the local area. We are mindful that the former pub was a key part of the community and we hope that these new homes provide future great memories for many.”
Stephen Heverin, Growth and Regeneration Director for Onward Homes, said: “We’re delighted to once again be working in partnership with Watson Homes to transform this site into much-needed homes for affordable rent in Whitefield. This latest development demonstrates our continued commitment to addressing housing need within the region and we look forward to delivering these quality homes, with further sites to follow in the future.”
The development lies between Bury and Manchester city centre.
