Grand Union Housing Group GiveaGift at Christmas

Local housing provider Grand Union Housing Group has teamed up with five local food banks to try and provide set items for their Christmas food parcels.

The five food banks in Central Beds, Milton Keynes, Brackley, Towcester and East Northants have each asked for specific goods, which will help them, put together Christmas food parcels being distributed to local families, single people and older people.

Aileen Evans, Grand Union’s Group Chief Executive, said: “Christmas is a time for giving and sharing, and that’s exactly what our staff, suppliers and stakeholders have been doing with our GiveaGift campaign by donating hundreds of food items, as well as money and vouchers, towards helping those in crisis this festive season.

“Every penny and item of food donated to a food bank will help those who find themselves experiencing difficulties or financial hardship.”

John Marshall, Project Manager for the Milton Keynes Food Bank commented: “I’m absolutely delighted to receive the generous offers of food, vouchers and money from Grand Union. Every donation helps to make a difference to families and individuals in difficulty in Milton Keynes.”

The Milton Keynes food bank distributes around 1,000 food parcels a month and that number increases in December. Their Christmas hamper programme, run in collaboration with social services, children and family centres and probation, provided food for around 700 adults and 680 children over the Christmas period last year.

Each of the food banks asked for set items to help with the putting together of food parcels for the festive period with the donations set to help over 1,700 people across the five areas.
