ForHousing begins work to build homes on site of former car dealership in Salford

Work is now under way on a transformative £3.1m project which will see 24 new truly affordable homes replace a disused car dealership in Eccles, Salford.

Representatives from Homes England and Salford City Council joined the ForHousing team as the progressive landlord marked the start of work on site at the former Woodlands garage to deliver five two-bedroom and 19 one-bedroom homes.

With completion earmarked for November 2022, all homes will be available for social rent and will provide greatly needed affordable housing.

Salford has more than 5,800 people on its housing waiting list and 63 people bidding for each home that becomes available.

Nigel Sedman, Group Director of Homes at ForHousing said: “It’s great to be working in partnership with Salford City Council and Homes England to provide these new affordable homes.

“At ForHousing we are dedicated to creating quality homes and places where people are proud to live. Over the past seven years we have delivered 1,190 affordable homes across the North West including more than 950 homes in Salford, and have ambitions to build more than that number again by 2026.”

Homes England, the Government department who look to increase the level of affordable housing, has provided a grant of £1.7m to help redevelop the site on Barton Lane.

The contractor on the development is Mangrove Construction Ltd, while AA Projects have been appointed as the Employers Agent and locally based firm Grays Architecture will lead on design.
