Build Your Future Career: Higgins Partnerships launches its 2022 Management Trainee Programme

The construction industry is one of the UK’s largest employers and with so many career opportunities within the sector, it’s an ideal pathway for those looking for their next route following school or college.

Higgins Partnerships has been running its successful Management Trainee Programme, ‘Building Your Future’ for a number of years and has opened applications for its latest programme starting in September 2022.

Declan Higgins, Partnerships Director at Higgins Partnerships commented: “We are really proud to once again launch our successful Management Trainee Programme which has been created to identity young talent and allow them to develop careers in the construction industry.

“The programme has been designed to remove the pressure of blindly selecting a career by allowing trainees to gain experience in a number of key departments within the business. They also have the opportunity to work towards a fully funded construction related BSc (Hons) degree, which allows them to ‘earn whilst they learn’ without the burden of student debt once the course has been completed.”

Ronak joined the 2021 Management Trainee Programme at Higgins in September. Ronak said: “I had been considering going to university to study Construction Law at UCL but once I came across it, the opportunities I could gain from this programme were much higher than just attending full time university. It really appealed to me that I could graduate with a BSc degree whilst gaining experience and earning.”

Once enrolled on the Programme, flexible rotations allow trainees to spend three to four months in four different departments before selecting one area of the business to pursue their career.

During term time trainees work a four-day week, with the remaining day at an accredited University working towards a construction related BSc (Hons) degree. Whilst at Higgins, each management trainee will also be enrolled in a mentor programme whereby a senior employee provides individuals guidance on their career at Higgins as well as assistance with their studies. Individuals will earn a competitive salary and also benefit from performance based annual pay rises.

Kyle, one of the current trainees commented: “I like the structure of the programme; it includes a clear development plan and a mentor scheme which enables you to quickly progress. I am currently in the commercial rotation and have the opportunity to be on site and also work at a desk, which is very helpful as I am being exposed to a variety of different work environments. I have been able to apply the knowledge from university into my everyday life working which has really helped my understanding. I would highly recommend this route. It is a great way to get your foot in to the industry and kick-start a prosperous career!”

A successful applicant must have a minimum of three A levels (or equivalent) at C or above to the join the BSc course, good communication skills, computer literate in Word and Excel and enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
