Bolton businesses spread hampers worth of Christmas cheer

Volunteering day sees Seddon and Clear Futures help to prepare over 1,500 Christmas hampers for the families of Bolton.

Urban Outreach, a Bolton based charity providing food for households in crisis, coordinated a volunteering day with local organisations to deliver festive hampers as part of the charity’s mission to feed over 1,500 families this Christmas.

With figures released this year showing that more than a third of Bolton’s children live in poverty and cost-of-living pressures mounting, support for families in the area is now more crucial than ever. Between April and September in 2021, 724 food parcels went out to children in Bolton, a 61 per cent rise from the year before. With this figure set to rise yet again this year, the support Urban Outreach provides is becoming increasingly vital for many in the community.

Seddon worked together with Clear Futures at the volunteer day at Urban Outreach along with contractors Robertson Group, Eric Wright Group and Willmott Dixon in Bolton, held on Tuesday 13th December.

The Mayor of Bolton was in attendance of the event and commented: “This is a great charitable initiative from Seddon and Clear Features. It was w onderful to see these two companies acting for the good of the community, especially at Christmas time. Urban Outreach already carries out commendable projects and this volunteering event will be very beneficial to many families in Bolton.”

Helping to produce over 1,500 food hampers, this event will make a considerable difference to the families in Bolton who use Urban Outreach. The charity provides food for disadvantaged adults and young people in Bolton. Urban Outreach also provides person-centred support and offender support for those in need in the community.

Nicola Hodkinson, Owner and Director of Seddon, said: “Community forms a key pillar of our values at Seddon. We have been based in and worked across the Bolton area for 125 years, making events like this one very close to our hearts. With families facing a cost-of-living crisis this year, the work that Urban Outreach is doing is invaluable to the community.”

Keith Edwards, Clear Futures Partnerships Director, commented: “Now more than ever it is so important to Clear Futures that we drive forward economic recovery and growth in our communities through the infrastructure projects and services we deliver. Today’s event is a great example of ourselves and our Tier One contractors coming together to support families across Bolton, and it was fantastic to see people from all walks of life volunteering on the day in support of the tremendous work that Urban Outreach do.”

As part of the Clear Futures partnership with Bolton Council, Seddon is currently working on a number of projects in the town including the refurbishment of Farnworth Leisure Centre and renovation and restoration of Bolton Market.
