Underfloor school Rehau heating

REHAU underfloor heating has been installed in the largest school ever built by Ceredigion Council in South Wales. The energy efficient £30m Llandysul School features more than 11,000m² of REHAU pipework – 9200m² fitted using REHAU’s Tacker sheet system and 2000m² fitted using its diffusion plate system over a timber suspended floor.

The Tacker sheet system, which aims to provide a fast and efficient way of fixing the underfloor heating pipework direct onto insulated sheets, has been used for all of the main parts of the building. REHAU’s diffusion plates have been used for the sprung floor in the sports hall and dance studio.

The underfloor heating is integrated into a full BMS intelligent control system.  A built in MODBus communication network enables easy connection into most Building Management Systems. The control system offers a wireless option and a cooling function to optimise individual comfort.

The high performance pre-insulated RAUTHERMEX pipework has also been installed in five runs using 63, 90 and 125mm sizes to feed the flow and return for the heating, boosted chilled water and hot water system from a remote plant room, minimising the thermal losses.

Llandysul School is unusual in that it is a ‘through school’ educating more than 1000 pupils from the age of 3 to 19.
