Work underway on new affordable homes at site of empty Stockbridge Village pub

Work is underway on a new £1.6m affordable housing development in Stockbridge Village.

The scheme from Villages Housing Association, which is part of the ForViva Group, will see 16 homes built on the site of the derelict Barley Mow pub.

Work on the development, which will provide high-quality homes for affordable rent, is earmarked for completion in May 2019.

It is the second new-build development from Villages Housing Association in Stockbridge Village with work on the £12.4m extra care scheme at The Withens, which will provide 90 new homes for older people, due to open in early 2019.

Last year, the landlord also bought 14 homes for private rent in Marled Hey as part of its commitment to delivering high quality housing in the area for residents.

Nigel Sedman, Group Director of Homes at ForViva, said: “It is great to see the progress we are making to transform this former derelict pub into much needed new affordable homes.

“We are working with the council and partners to deliver this scheme as part of our wider commitment to creating thriving communities in Stockbridge Village.”

Cllr Tony Brennan, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, added: “I’m delighted to see this scheme progress.  It will provide a greater choice of quality homes in Stockbridge Village, which will meet housing demands in the local area.  A former derelict site is being brought back into use too which I know will be welcomed by the local community.”

The development of the new properties at the Barley Mow site is part funded by a grant of £435,000 from the Government’s Disposal Proceeds Fund.

Villages will work with developer Property Alliance Group to deliver the scheme, along with construction firm Ecogee and Lymm-based architect Eden Building Design.

The Barley Mow development will comprise of 10 one-bedroom apartments, four two-bedroom apartments and two three-bedroom houses.
