Work has started to build 56 new homes on the former site of Cherry Garden School in Bermondsey, South London.
As part of the scheme Higgins Partnerships will be delivering 26 new council homes, comprising one-, two and three-bedroom properties, including six wheelchair accessible apartments, providing much needed affordable homes for the local community. The 30 private sale homes will be marketed through Higgins Homes.
Steve Boreham, Construction Director for Higgins Partnerships commented: “We are delighted to be working closely with Southwark Council and Higgins Homes to deliver this important site in Bermondsey which will revitalise the former school site and bring much needed high quality new homes to the area.
“Work is well underway, and we are estimating that the site should be completed in Summer 2023.”
Councillor Stephanie Cryan, Cabinet Member for Council Homes and Homelessness, said: “I’m delighted that works have started on this fantastic development which will provide 26 much-needed new council homes for the local community. We are pleased to be partnering with Higgins on this site to deliver a mixed-tenure development which will provide high-quality new homes as well as enhancing the local area.”
The new scheme, which has been designed by Alan Camp Architects, will also include 150sqm of retail space and hard and soft landscaping throughout the development.
