Building firm J.G. Hale Construction has been joined by members of Powys Council at a topping out ceremony, placing the final tile on the last roof of a 32-unit development on the council’s land north of Heol-Y-Ffynnon in Brecon.
J.G. Hale Construction’s Contracts Manager, Andrew Collins, was joined by Powys County Councillors Rosemary Harries, Matthew Dorrance and James Evans, along with Nina Davies, Head of Housing and community at Powys County Council, to ceremonially mark the important milestone at the Brecon site.
The £5.1m development is Powys County Council’s first affordable housing development for social rent in over 40 years, and provides a mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom low carbon accommodation available at an affordable rent.
The innovative and attractive scheme has been commended by members of the BBNPA planning committee for its commitment to providing accessible recreation space and active travel.
J.G. Hale Construction is a Wales-based firm recognised for its commitment to innovative, eco-friendly design, quality materials and finishes and sustainable building practices. The company is committed to using local sub-contractors and suppliers.
Andrew Collins, Contracts Manager for J.G. Hale Construction, said: “It’s a testament to the close collaboration with the Powys housing team and the J.G. Hale delivery team, supply chain and several local contractors, to have reached this important milestone, especially given the current circumstances.
“We are absolutely delighted with the progress which, given the current environment, is a credit to everyone involved, and equally as pleased to continue to provide opportunities for the people of Powys through employment as well as work experience for the locally unemployed.
“The site remains firmly on programme to deliver these 32 highly energy-efficient properties which are a mix of two, three and four bedrooms, which will be a great addition to the housing stock of Powys County Council.”
Powys County Council Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Housing and Regulatory Cervices, Councillor, James Evans, said: “We would like to thank J.G. Hale Construction for allowing us to be part of this milestone event. The work of all involved in this development is commended, with appreciation of the challenges over the past few months. J.G. Hale Construction have shown dedication to the delivery of Powys County Council’s first council homes for a generation. We look forward to the completion of these properties when they become homes for council tenants.”
