Thurrock Council and Wates Living Space to continue partnership

Wates Living Space has successfully secured a contract to work with Thurrock Council for a further three years on its Transforming Homes Programme.

This appointment follows a successful four year contract that involved working across 3,000 occupied and void properties in the borough, which will complete in May this year. Wates will continue to deliver refurbishments to hundreds of properties across Grays and Stifford in Thurrock.

David Morgan, Managing Director of Wates Living Space (pictured above), commented: “Over the past four years we have developed an excellent working relationship with the team at Thurrock, and we’re delighted that the Transforming Homes contract has been extended for a further three years. This extension will allow us to further improve the service we offer the local community, utilising the knowledge we have developed of Thurrock’s housing stock and local geography. Through our engagement with the local community, we aim to leave a positive lasting legacy that will benefit the borough for years to come.”

Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Housing, Cllr Rob Gledhill added: “This contract continues to give stability to a project with the simple mandate of improving people’s homes. Thurrock is the largest local landlord, and it is our duty to ensure the homes being provided are safe and well maintained.

“Wates has achieved a customer satisfaction rating this year to date of 94% overall — including five months of 100% ratings, meaning every customer surveyed rated their service as either ‘good’ or ‘excellent’.

“85% of the workforce completing the work are local residents — which is great for Thurrock. I look forward to the ongoing upgrades over the next three years.”

Works will include kitchen and bathroom renewal, electrical and damp proofing, window replacements, roof maintenance and general structural repairs and modifications. Wates has also committed to supporting the next generation of workers in Thurrock by delivering vocational training and work placements as well as engaging with local schools and colleges.
