People on Rotherham’s Council Housing Register will be some of the first to benefit from a new housing development to be built on the site of the former Lordens Hotel in Dinnington.
The Arches Housing Association scheme will offer two- and four-bedroomed homes for rent and Rotherham Council be nominating the first people to be offered keys to the new homes.
Construction of the 15 two-bedroom houses officially started following a sod-cutting event attended by local ward Councillors and the Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Dominic Beck.
Councillor Beck, said: “We are delighted to see more brand new homes built in Rotherham which will provide a new start for couples and families. The site overlooks beautiful open countryside and is close to local amenities including shops, schools and colleges, providing a great location where people can grow, flourish and prosper.”
The Council has worked with Arches Housing and Keystone (Yorkshire) to provide strategic support to deliver the scheme. The former public house was acquired and demolished by Keystone (Yorkshire) Ltd, a locally based construction company and the Council assisted in providing housing needs information and support for the funding bid to Homes England.
The development represents £2m of external housing investment into Dinnington, of which £600,000 is Government grant funding allocated via Homes England.
The homes are due to be completed in March 2020.
