GUHG to break housebuilding record

Affordable housing provider, Grand Union Housing Group (GUHG), is on track to break its record for building the largest number of homes in one year since its formation.

The GUHG development programme this year forecasts the delivery of 306 homes, 29 more than they built in 2012 and is spread mainly between Central Bedfordshire and South Northamptonshire, but also sees sites being developed in Northampton, Milton Keynes and East Northamptonshire.

Dave Lakin, head of new business and development, commented: “Over the past year we’ve been called on to build more homes in a bid to help end the housing crisis in this country.  We are playing our part and doing just that, by building more affordable homes this year than we ever have before.

“It’s great that we are in a position where we can increase the number of homes we build and also expand the locations where we can deliver affordable homes to local people.”

Amongst the programme are a number of schemes that are being built on former garage sites.

Mr Lakin continued: “Transforming outdated, unused garage sites into much needed homes is just another way we can provide more homes for people that need them in rural areas.”

The holes in the current programme are made up of mix of 162 for affordable rent and 144 for shared ownership.
