Social landlords are being invited to attend two free webinars on 5th and 6th September 2023 to receive an update on the progress of the Building Safety Act implementation programme and learn about the changes they should expect in the coming months.
Earlier this year, Government issued the Higher-Risk Buildings Regulations 2023 which requires the Principal Accountable Person to register any existing higher-risk buildings with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) before 1st October 2023.
As this deadline approaches, Dame Judith Hackitt will be speaking at FireDNA’s “All buildings, all builders – an essential guide to the widespread impacts of the new building safety regime” webinars to share her thoughts on industry progress as well as provide an update on the number of buildings that have been registered with the BSR so far.
Tony Millen, Chief Product Architect and Operations Director at FireDNA, said: “It’s crucial that social landlords are taking a proactive approach to their responsibilities and engagement with residents, and not adopting a ‘wait and see’ mentality. They need to be open about what actions are being taken and how they plan on sharing this information with residents going forward.
“These webinars will highlight the importance of everyone in the supply chain taking responsibility for their role in contributing to, maintaining and managing building safety information. That’s not just dutyholders and not just buildings in scope; everyone in the industry has a key role to play in making buildings safer.”
On the first webinar, held on Tuesday 5th September, Dame Judith Hackitt will be joined by architects Buckley Gray Yeoman and Ballymore Asset Management Ltd, the asset management arm of property developer Ballymore, to discuss how the Building Safety Act is impacting different parts of the supply chain, the expected changes in the next 18 months, and how existing projects are changing in line with legislation.
The second session on Wednesday 6th September will focus on construction products and the competency of those working with life safety products.
Hanna Clarke, Digital and Policy Manager at the Construction Products Association (CPA), Iain McIlwee, Chief Executive at The Finishes and Interiors Sector (FIS), Will Hunnam, managing director of Forza Doors, Douglas Masterson, technical manager at Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI), and Dr Stephen Hamil, Innovation Director at National Building Specification (NBS) will discuss how the industry ensures that product information is accurately recorded and transferred from the manufacturer to the supply chain and then handed over to the building owner, as well as how it is managed throughout the lifecycle of the building. They will also examine the role of third-party certification and the challenges that organisations are experiencing in implementing the Building Safety Act.
FireDNA is hosting the webinars in association with the NBS, FIS and GAI.
