Contracts awarded for £500m public sector new build framework in Scotland

Twenty suppliers have been awarded a place on a new four year, £500m new build framework to deliver public sector construction projects in Scotland.

The Scottish Procurement Alliance (SPA) will operate the New Build Housing Construction H2 framework, which replaces the previous H1 framework in Scotland, from 1st August 2022 to 31st July 2026.

Through the new framework, developed by not-for-profit public sector construction framework provider LHC, SPA aims to deliver a range of tangible benefits to communities by helping to address ongoing local housing challenges and providing solutions that will meet community needs, now and in years to come.

The framework offers a range of traditional housing solutions to the public sector, as well as low-, medium- and high-rise construction, care homes, mixed-use sites and sheltered, student and keyworker accommodation. It also supports a focus on creating net zero buildings, bringing environmental benefits at a local level and improving the lives of communities.

Associated civil engineering and infrastructure works required for new build housing and net zero buildings are also covered under the framework, creating opportunities for specialist contractors to apply for the standalone groundworks, demolition and site clearance work needed to facilitate the construction of new homes.

Dean Fazackerley, Head of Technical Procurement at LHC, said: “The new H2 framework will help to meet the ongoing housing challenges within the public sector, balancing the need to meet local housing demand and the essential drive to move towards the production of zero carbon homes.

“There is a growing demand for frameworks like this that are responsive to ongoing housing challenges within the public sector, while also prioritising the importance of the wider societal benefits that can be achieved through creating healthier environments that embody social, human, and environmental considerations.”
