Construction begins on 73 new council homes in Stonebridge

Construction has begun on 73 new council homes, a retail unit and public open space linking two sites, in Hillside and Milton Avenue, Stonebridge. The project is part of Brent Council’s target to build 1,000 new council houses by 2024.

Higgins Partnerships, who were awarded the £22m contract in August, will design and build the 73 mixed-tenure homes as part of the redevelopment of Stonebridge.

The Hillside site will consist of 51 one,- two- and three-bedroom apartments, across two blocks, up to seven storeys in height with a roof terrace on both blocks, while the Milton Avenue site will feature a terrace of 22, four-bedroom, three storey townhouses.

The Hillside site will also have a ground level under croft car park with 22 spaces and a landscaped podium on the first floor level, which links the two blocks.

The new public open space will feature hard and soft landscaping with a new playground and outdoor gym included, and a series of bridges over the existing canal feeder that runs through the sites.

The two sites form part of the masterplan to redevelop the heart of Stonebridge, with the aim of strengthening and improving community amenities and to enrich the local environment.

Steve Boreham, Construction Director for Higgins Partnerships said: “We are very pleased to be working with Brent Council to sensitively redevelop these two sites in Stonebridge and provide much needed new homes for local residents as well as improving community amenities and enriching the local environment.”

Cllr Eleanor Southwood, Cabinet Member for Housing and Welfare Reform commented: “We are looking forward to working with Higgins and starting construction at Hillside and Milton Avenue in Stonebridge. These are 73 much needed purpose built homes, that include a selection of larger family-sized accommodation. We are making good progress on our ambitious target to deliver 5,000 affordable homes including 1,000 council homes by 2024. Our goal is to provide affordable and high quality homes across Brent.”

Brent Council and the team from Higgins embark on this partnership to deliver homes for the future. Construction is due to be completed by autumn 2022.
