Low Carbon Homes, supported by MCS, has opened the registration for six new online events — each consisting of three days of intense discussion and knowledge sharing to consider how best to rapidly scale up the retrofitting of housing locally.
Low Carbon Homes brings global domestic energy efficiency innovation to the UK’s regions via a nationwide event series focused on the challenges of retrofitting the UK’s 25 million existing homes. Aimed at architects, heating engineers, local authorities, housing associations, contractors and related sector professionals, the free-to-attend events feature a structured programme built around three core sessions for each host city/region:
- What have we got to do and how are we doing?
- What else could we be doing?
- What’s holding us back?
The timely expansion of the free-to-attend event series comes as the UK Government releases more details of its £2bn Green Homes Grant scheme for England, and the Scottish Government announces an extra £1.6bn to de-carbonise buildings — each to be spent in the current parliament.

“On the back of a successful online event with Birmingham City Council in July, and four in-person events last year, we have already brought together more than 500 influential stakeholders across the UK and are now on track to more than double that over the next six months.
“For each event we focus on achieving clear outcomes that enable our host partners to take a significant step forward towards achieving their local retrofit goals. We believe that a local approach is the only way to achieve retrofit at scale – to reduce the carbon impact of housing, eradicate fuel poverty and stimulate local economic recovery.”
The six new events are:
- Derbyshire, 6th – 8th October, hosted by Derbyshire County Council, Chesterfield Borough Council, South Derbyshire District Council and University of Derby
- Glasgow, 20th – 22nd October, hosted by Glasgow City Council
- Manchester, 3rd – 5th November, hosted by Manchester City Council
- Liverpool, 8th – 10th December, hosted by Liverpool John Moores University
- Kent, 26th – 28th January, hosted by Kent County Council
- Oxfordshire, 9th – 11th February, hosted by Cosy Homes Oxfordshire
