150 Hereford flats receive decarbonisation upgrades

To significantly improve their EPC ratings, 150 Hereford flats have received whole-building energy efficiency upgrades following a project completed by retrofit solutions provider Sustainable Building Services (UK) Ltd.

Working in partnership with rural affordable housing provider Connexus, the project managed and delivered by SBS saw the installation of wall insulation, energy efficient windows, mansard roof insulation and works as well as ventilation improvements, raising all the properties’ energy efficiency rating to EPC C and below.

The first phase, which included 60 flats undergoing energy efficiency renovations, was part funded by the European Regional Development Fund, with the further 90 flats part funded by the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund Wave 2. A further 73 properties across Shropshire are set to receive similar upgrades in the projects’ next phase.

Steve Roberts, Regional Director, at Sustainable Building Services, said: “The social benefits that these improvements have brought to the area can be seen noticeably. Residents across the 17 buildings can now enjoy better warmer and healthy homes, lower energy bills, and a higher all-round quality of life. It’s one less thing to worry about for them and the responses we’ve had from the community to our on-site resident liaison officer have all been overwhelmingly positive.

“At SBS, our focus is always around the people whose homes we’re working on, as we know for each home we work on, while it’s only an incremental change to the planet, for those that live there the change is massive. We’re hugely pleased with how this project has worked out and we’re looking forward to continuing our work with Connexus and our supply partners on the next phase.”

Rob Weale, Contracts Manager at Connexus, said: “This project has made a considerable positive impact on as many as 150 families. No one should have to worry about the safety of their own home, and whether it will be warm and dry enough. Residents are at the heart of our service and the energy efficiency measures SBS has installed will make a world of difference to each and every one of them.”
