BBA certification for Sto external wall insulation

In a move which underlines the quality of Sto external wall insulation, the BBA has updated two Agrément Certificates which cover the company’s StoTherm Mineral system. The certificates now include additional mechanical fixing and the latest reinforcement render.

“This is a major step forward for us,” said Sto’s Technical Manager, Kevin Davies. “Our StoTherm Mineral system has carried the backing of BBA certification for use on masonry, and on lightweight steel frames, for some considerable time, but the updated certifications bring extra reassurance for our customers as they now cover new products.”

One such product is the use of the Sto-Rotofix Mini with the StoTherm Mineral system. The Sto-Rotofix Mini uses a unique helical spiral fixing which allows the external wall insulation to be mechanically fixed quickly and reliably, and then easily adjusted to create a seamless façade that is ready for rendering. This StoTherm Mineral system allows the creation of a drained cavity, and has an A2-s1, d0 reaction to fire classification in accordance with EN 1350-1 : 2010, together with great impact resistance, and it is certified for use without height restrictions.

The Sto-Rotofix Mini is stronger and quicker to install, has fewer components and better levelling capabilities than any comparable alternative. Being ideal for use with thinner insulation – typically between 60 – 100 mm on mineral wool – and with cavity sizes of 20-30mm, it expands the scope of Sto’s insulation fixing system quite considerably. With far fewer components than alternative systems, Rotofix makes it easier to estimate the materials required. This simplifies the supply chain and makes the ordering process far easier. It also eliminates the need to cut rails on-site, and because the position of fixings can be viewed during installation, Rotofix makes it far easier to ensure that the right number of fixings have been used, and that long-term security is guaranteed.

Also now included by the certification is StoArmat Classic Plus render, used as a reinforcement coat for the StoTherm Mineral system. Suitable for use on both mineral and organic substrates, this product can perform as a reinforcing compound and base coat, and also as a levelling filler, and is supplied ready to apply. It has a class A2-s1, d0 in accordance with EN 13501-1 reaction to fire, is cement-free, and has limited combustibility.
