Yarlington Housing Group has announced that it has submitted a full Planning Application on its first site in Bristol as it expands its geographical reach to help tackle the South-west’s housing crisis.
The site, located on Kings Weston Avenue in Shirehampton, was purchased by Yarlington with planning consent for 14 open market homes. The new application seeks to provide 19 homes which Yarlington will build as a mix of two- and three-bedroom properties for shared ownership.
Yarlington’s Kings Weston development will provide much needed affordable housing in city where there is little social housing and locals can no longer afford to live. The plans also support the City Council’s objectives to work with housing associations and community partners to build affordable housing.
On the development, Yarlington’s Executive Director of Growth and Development, Stephen Lodge, said: “We are delighted to have secured our first site in Bristol. Kings Weston is a huge milestone for Yarlington as we mark the first year of our corporate strategy Next-Gen.
“Bristol has the most acute housing need in the region and this is a great start to Yarlington’s commitment to make affordable housing a reality for local people in the city.”
Kings Weston sits on brownfield land which previously housed a disused pumping station and long-since closed down smelting works. Building on brownfield land means that Yarlington will regenerate existing developed land and reduce pressure on expanding a city while providing much needed affordable homes.
Yarlington’s move to Bristol comes as part of its corporate strategy Next-Gen, which seeks to help solve the South-west’s housing crisis. Yarlington Next-Gen commits to building 1,500 new homes by 2021, with 500 of these in Bristol, a new area for Yarlington.
Over the next few months Yarlington will continue its talks with Bristol City Council to secure further sites to continue its commitment to provide the city with affordable housing.
