Work starts on 29 new affordable homes in Nuneaton

Construction has started on a development of 29 affordable rent homes in Nuneaton to help meet local affordable housing demand.

Delivered for Citizen, the £3.3m scheme will provide a variety of housing types to create a thriving new community for families and older people.

Built by Seddon and designed by Walker Troup Architects, the development comprises six two-bedroom and 13 three-bedroom houses, as well as a block of 10 two-bedroom apartments. All of the homes will feature PVC-U doors and windows, as well as fully insulated floors, walls, and lofts to help lower residents’ energy bills.

Seddon will install new fixtures and fittings, decorate the new homes, and carry out external works including lighting, hard and soft landscaping, and the creation of new access roads. Work is scheduled to complete in Q2 2022.

Triton Road is part of Citizen’s commitment to building affordable homes in areas across the West Midlands where they are most needed. Located south of the town centre, the development is in close proximity to excellent community facilities, such as Pingles Leisure Park, Wembrook Community Centre, and several nurseries, primary schools, and secondary schools.

Rob Moore, Business Unit Director at Seddon, said: “Affordable rent homes are key if we are to empower people to feel truly part of their communities.

“Our customer-led approach to housing delivery is central to everything we do at Seddon. Triton Road embodies the successful relationship we’ve built with Citizen, an organsiation that is committed to rebalancing the issue of housing affordability across the West Midlands.

“This is a fantastically designed and well-situated development, which will transform disused brownfield land to create a real sense of place and community for residents.”

Nick Byrne, Executive Director of Development at Citizen, commented: “We’re pleased to see work starting on the Triton Road site in Nuneaton and, once completed, it will provide much needed homes for people living in Nuneaton.

“It’s good to be working with Seddon again on a brownfield site in Nuneaton and we are looking forward to seeing the site progress.”

Triton Road is one of several live sites that Seddon is delivering for Citizen. In Coventry, the construction of six new, affordable rent bungalows located on brownfield land on Everdon Road is due to complete in 2021.

Part of £25m a transformation of Coventry’s Riley Square and Bell Green district centre, work is nearing completion on Almond Tree Avenue, where 36 mixed-tenure homes are being delivered for local people and families. The £3.7m project is expected to hand over in summer 2021.

Meanwhile, work is progressing on a development of 11 new-build houses on Clifton Street. Comprising five two-bedroom, four three-bedroom and two four-bedroom houses for affordable rent, the project is also due to complete in the summer.
