West Northamptonshire Council’s housing provider welcomes families to new homes in Thorplands

West Northamptonshire Council’s (WNC) housing provider, Northampton Partnership Homes (NPH), is delighted to welcome residents to their new homes on the site of the former Tanners Pub in Thorplands. The new development, known as Farmfield Court, is made up of 17 new modern, spacious family homes and includes six one-bedroom flats and 11 three- and four-bedroom houses.

One new resident who has recently moved in is absolutely thrilled with her new home. She said: “It’s lovely, I can’t believe this is my new house. There’s so much more space than I had before, and it’s a lot bigger than it looks from the outside! There are so many lovely touches, like the lights and the windows, there’s clearly been a lot of effort put into this being a perfect family home. My children are so glad to have a garden now too; they haven’t had one before! It’s amazing, I’m so happy to have this new start.”

The new homes add more much needed family homes to WNC’s housing stock, which is managed by NPH. Together, the organisations are committed to building more homes across Northampton.

Winston Williams, Director of Asset Management at NPH said: “We’re so pleased to welcome residents to their new homes in Thorplands. It’s great to see how happy families are with their new homes, and we wish them well for their new start. We want to say a huge thank you to WNC for their support in this project, which has allowed us to invest in the local neighbourhood as well as build these much-needed family homes for local people. We also want to thank residents in Thorplands for their support during the works, and we look forward to seeing them come together to use their new community space in the coming weeks and months.”

Farmfield Court development

The redevelopment of the former Tanners pub site allowed NPH to invest in the community by building a new community hub space, shops and a takeaway. After consulting with residents, it was clear the shops and takeaway were important to the community. As a result, the shops and takeaway were the first part of the development to be completed. The new community hub will open in the coming weeks and will be available for local residents to book.

Sarah Hayman is chair of the Thorplands Residents Association. She has been working with local organisations and has big plans for the new community space. Sarah said: “The new community hub is going to be a great asset to the residents of Thorplands. We have been working hard with local organisations such as Growing Together and Emmanuel Church to plan lots of exciting activities for local residents. These will include craft groups, coffee mornings, tots groups and family games, with lots more to come. I’m very excited for the space to open, and I know it’ll be really well used by the community.”

Councillor Adam Brown, WNC Cabinet Member for Housing, Leisure and Culture added: “This new development provides additional much-needed family homes, and we are delighted that several more projects will be delivered over the coming months to provide housing to people on our waiting lists.

“But we don’t just want to build new homes, we want to help build strong communities, and the introduction of the hub will go a long way to helping the residents association do just that.”

This development in Thorplands forms part of NPH and WNC’s strategy to build new homes across Northampton. Since the start of the year, NPH has built new homes in various locations in Lumbertubs, Paddock Mill Court in Blackthorn, Blakesley Court in Kingsthorpe and Connaught Street in the town centre. They also have a large development of 60 homes which will completed very soon.
