Wallasey MP Dame Angela Eagle met residents in their new homes at specialist housing provider Alpha Living’s flagship development, the Wirral’s largest extra care scheme.
Dame Eagle enjoyed a tour of Alpha’s £11m Poppyfields development in Saughall Massie, which opened over the summer, alongside Alpha’s Chief Executive Graeme Foster and members of the housing association’s senior management team.
All 78 apartments at the retirement living scheme for over 55s are now occupied, with residents receiving support from Alpha’s dedicated team, helping to maintain high standards of independent living.
Poppyfields has spacious communal areas, an onsite bistro serving hot food, as well as a hair and beauty salon. An internal courtyard garden enables residents to get outdoors whatever the time of year.
Dame Angela Eagle said: “This is a hugely impressive extra care scheme at Poppyfields, which has a high standard of space and finishes, as well as large communal areas. Although Poppyfields has only just opened, talking with residents it is clear they had settled in quickly and were really enjoying the friendly and sociable atmosphere, which was really lovely to see.”
Graeme Foster added: “We are so proud of Poppyfields and we really enjoyed showing Angela around, where she met many of our residents and saw our passion for promoting independence later in life, with a helping hand from our team.”
