Tree trumps Beatles at Woolton development

Plus Dane Housing can reveal the name for the new development which is making good progress on the corner of Menlove Avenue and Vale Road in Woolton in Liverpool, following a naming competition.

The new building, which replaces the former car sales showroom opposite The Derby Arms near Woolton Village, provides a stunning addition to the junction, which is passed by thousands of Beatles fans and tourists.

The site is just along the road from John Lennon’s childhood home where he lived with his Aunt Mimi and less than a mile from Strawberry Field, both of which had an influence on the naming shortlist. However, the names with Beatles connections were beaten in the competition by a connection to a much-loved tree on the side of the site.

The development will be known as Lime Tree Court when it is completed, in Spring/Summer 2024. The name recognises the protected Lime Tree which dominates one side of the site and also influenced the shape of the building. Chris McAllister, Director of Development for Plus Dane, said: “We are making good progress on the Lime Tree Court development. Affordable homes to rent, specifically for the over 55s, in this area are in short supply and we think these homes will be very popular. It is a lovely part of Liverpool and is just a short walk to all the superb amenities in vibrant Woolton Village. I was surprised that one of the names with a Beatles connection did not win our competition but I think the winning name reflects how attached we are to nature and our beautiful trees. It is a fitting name for the development as the Lime Tree influenced our plans and the design of the site and building right from the very beginning.”

Work on site is progressing well. The scheme will consist of 32, one- and two-bedroom apartments, for affordable rent, for the over 55s. Once complete the homes will be let through Property Pool Plus. Keep an eye on the Plus Dane website for more details.
