Stantec’s presence in North East England goes from strength to strength following the firm’s appointment to the NEPO framework and Barton Willmore’s integration.
Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering services, is continuing to build ties and grow its presence across the UK, particularly in the North East of England. The company, which acquired leading planning and design firm, Barton Willmore, in 2022 has recently been appointed to Lot 2 of the NEPO (North East Procurement Organisation) Framework, following a competitive tender process.
NEPO works in partnership with local authorities and the wider public sector in the North East to ensure public spending delivers value and drives positive outcomes. Via a lot structure, the NEPO Framework covers a diverse range of construction projects across the region but is mainly targeted at new build and improvement works, while also including civil engineering and infrastructure activity. Stantec is identifying opportunities from Lot 2 of the framework, which covers multi-disciplinary transport and civil engineering works.
The framework appointment comes at the same time as the Stantec and Barton Willmore teams join forces at Stantec’s Rotterdam House office in Newcastle. Barton Willmore now Stantec’s Newcastle team has extensive experience spanning mixed residential, leisure, commercial, health, education, construction, infrastructure, and industrial projects.
The team’s unique planning expertise will complement Stantec’s existing community development, water, transport and energy capabilities, allowing the firm to offer invaluable consultancy services for transformative projects across the region.
Mike Cammock, Director of Transport Planning – North of England, Stantec commented: “Being appointed to the only public buying organisation that is governed by the 12 local authorities in the North East opens up many doors for us to a number of exciting opportunities.
“Our recently bolstered Newcastle team are in the best position to capitalise on this, building on their local ties while also drawing from our extensive bank of interdisciplinary expertise from the UK and around the world.”
James Hall, Planning Director, at Barton Willmore, now Stantec, added: “The team at Barton Willmore, now Stantec already have fantastic relationships and planning knowledge across the North of England. Barton Willmore was a growing and successful firm when Stantec acquired us, and we’re delighted that Newcastle is the first fully integrated office as our two organisations grow and win work together.
“We’re already combining the best of our expertise and insight so we can create an unparalleled level of service for iconic projects across the built environment, such as those that come through the NEPO framework.”
Jane Turner, Construction Lead said: “NEPO are pleased to have Stantec as a supplier on NEPO212 Support Services for the Development of the Built Environment, we look forward to building our relationship and working with them to deliver for Contracting Authorities across the North East.”
