The Mayor of Salford, Paul Dennett, joined Great Places Housing Group, Homes England and Countryside on site at Reynolds Place, a landmark development that looks to address the need for additional affordable housing in the city.
The site, acquired by Countryside and Great Places at the end of 2018, is also the first in the North-west region to include much needed homes for social rent using Homes England grant funding. This further strengthens Great Places’ delivery of affordable homes across the North-west and Yorkshire following the ground-breaking Strategic Partnership signed between Great Places and Homes England to deliver additional affordable homes.
Great Places has entered into a contract with Countryside to deliver 52 two- and three-bedroom affordable family homes as part of the wider site of 302 homes. Great Places will offer three affordable tenures through the provision of social rent, affordable rent and Shared Ownership homes, which will compliment Countryside’s houses for Open Market Sale and Private Rent through Sigma; Reynolds Place offers a true whole market offer.
The Mayor joined Great Places’ Director of Development Helen Spencer, Nick Cumberland from Homes England and Countryside’s Development Manager, Michael Parkinson, to take a tour of the site in the early stages of development.
Commenting on the scheme Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett said: “We are facing a housing crisis with 5,867 households on the council’s housing register and 39 bids being made on each affordable home advertised. This project is helping to buck the trend and create a new community that has been built on brownfield land and providing a mix of homes that are affordable for local people. This includes homes available for social rent, affordable rent, affordable home ownership and homes for sale.
“I’d like to say a big public thank you to Great Places Housing Group, Homes England and Countryside for bringing this project to life as we continue to regenerate areas and fight for a better and fairer Salford for all.”
Helen Spencer, Director of Development at Great Places, commented: “We were delighted to show the Mayor around the site.
