A modern healthcare facility is opening its doors to the public for the first time following the successful completion of a £2.3m development project in Swansea.
Mayhill GP Surgery officially opened earlier this month, offering residents a new Family Surgery, GP Centre and Chemist facility, alongside a wealth of community services. Developed by contractor R&M Williams in partnership with health and social care specialist Ashley House, the new centre replaces the former Mayhill Family Centre first founded on the site 30 years ago.
As such, the new building contains a time capsule including artefacts from the original family centre, as well as more up to date items including a local newspaper and artwork from local children. Darryn Parry, Managing Director of R&M Williams, said: “We received a great deal of community support during our time onsite here, and are delighted to have been able in return to develop a state-of-the-art complex within the allotted timeframe, and to the highest of standards.
“As the first fully integrated family centre and GP surgery in Wales, the project for us as contractors has also been a particularly interesting and exciting project to work on, and one which we feel privileged to have been a part of.”
The complex achieved a standard of excellence rating with the Considerate Constructors Programme during its construction. Scoring highly for respecting the community, protecting the environment and securing everyone’s safety, the building will also provide childcare for local families, sensory facilities, baby yoga, food bank access and a host of other services.
Julie Hayes, Mayhill GP Surgery Manager, said: “R&M Williams’ quality of work at our new surgery building is of a very high standard. R&M Williams went over and above to help us during our stressful transition moving from a very old converted house to our new flagship surgery.
“Our GPs and staff are very happy with the result after a very long planning period we have a tremendous new surgery.”
Based in Swansea and Cardiff, R&M Williams has construction, maintenance, development, mechanical and electrical installation, as well as painting and decorating divisions. It has also won various awards for previous projects including work on Swansea’s Urban Quarter, and the regeneration of Penarth Pier in 2014.
