Residents move into new affordable homes in High Wycombe

Overlooking the River Wye, a new development called Riverside View, has opened on Grafton Street, bringing 41 new affordable homes to High Wycombe on a former industrial site. This is a development by Hightown Housing Association with support from Buckinghamshire Council.

The development, which comprises of a mixture of one- and two-bedroom flats and houses, was made possible with grant funding provided by Buckinghamshire Council and additional funding from Homes England. Many of the homes are already occupied by households nominated by the Council.

Riverside View includes 27 homes for social rent and 14 shared ownership homes. The development includes areas for parking, cycle storage, communal refuse as well as green spaces.

Riverside View has been built by Ridgepoint Homes on a former industrial site on Grafton Street and transformed into contemporary apartments, riverside walks and landscaped areas. The homes are within walking distance of High Wycombe town centre. There is a good selection of local schools with the nearest school being less than a 10-minute walk away.

Residents Clare and Frank Davidson, who have recently moved into their three bedroom shared ownership house, praised the newly built property and location. They were won over by “the space within the house, the lovely river nearby and the garden for their children to play in.”

Isobel Darby, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness at Buckinghamshire Council, said: “We are delighted that the first residents are moving in now. I had the pleasure of meeting one family moving in on Friday last week who were thrilled with their new affordable home and the fresh start this will give them.

“The Council wants to make Buckinghamshire the best place to live, raise a family, work and do business. Working with partners, like Hightown, we want to continue to provide the homes our growing communities need, including affordable housing, at the right stage in people’s lives.”

Hightown have built 129 new affordable homes in Buckinghamshire since April 2020.

David Bogle, Chief Executive of Hightown Housing Association, said: “We are delighted to deliver 41 new affordable homes in High Wycombe and are grateful to Buckinghamshire Council for the funding to enable the rented homes to be let at social rents. We must also thank Ridgepoint Homes and our other partners who have worked through social distancing and restrictions on the availability of materials and supplies to finish this development.

“In the current situation, when we are all spending so much time in our homes, it’s very important that we continue to deliver high quality, affordable housing to meet local needs.”
