Peabody and Redrow Begin First JV Project at Royal Docks Site

One of London’s largest housing associations, Peabody and property developer Redrow, have begun work on a collection of stylish new apartments at Pontoon Reach, E15 part of London’s Royal Docks

The scheme will deliver 295 homes, comprising a mix of studios, one, two and three-bedroom apartments. Londoners who live and work in the capital can now register interest for the studio homes via the Mayor of London’s portal.

The Royal Docks, which first opened in 1855 to allow large vessels to travel further upriver, is currently undergoing regeneration following the designation of the area as an Enterprise Zone in 2010. Peabody and Redrow are playing a significant role in moving the area on from its industrial past. Together they are converting a former brownfield site on North Woolwich Road, which has been vacant since the closure of an Esso Service station, into new homes for Londoners.

The partners broke ground at the site at a breaking ground ceremony and construction is now underway.

Mark Parker, Managing Director at Redrow London, commented: “We are excited to be starting work at our Royal Docks site. This area of London is currently undergoing a huge transformation. The £314m regeneration which is taking place over the next five years has the potential to generate more than £5m in investment over the next two decades, and it’s fantastic to be a part of it.

“The joint venture with Peabody further highlights our commitment to delivering new homes for Londoners as we look to deliver more homes in key regeneration areas across the capital.”

Debbie Combs, Director of Sales & Marketing at Peabody, added: “Peabody aims to start around 2,500 new homes in the next 12 months and we’re pleased to be starting on-site at Royal Docks. Working with Redrow, the Mayor of London and the London Borough of Newham, this important scheme will deliver nearly 300 much-needed new homes. Pontoon Reach will be a great addition to this exciting regeneration area.”

Once complete, the apartments will be set around a communal landscaped garden, and will each boast a terrace or balcony, providing private outdoor space. The apartment’s interiors will be finished to a high specification, with underfloor heating throughout and fully integrated kitchens offering stylish worktops and tiling.
