Orbit was named winner in two categories at the Association of Safety and Compliance Professionals’ (ASCP) Safety & Compliance Awards.
The affordable housing provider won the award for ‘Building Safety Initiative of the Year’ for its work with Parametrix, to create a digital Building Information Model (BIM) of three high-rise residential blocks.
The project involved a series of on-site surveying activities being carried out including laser scanning, thermal drone operations, intrusive building investigations and risk assessments to create a highly detailed ‘digital twin’ of an estate in Erith, London. These 3D building replicas act as smart databases, which hold the ‘golden thread of building information’ for the estate including 2D plans, schedules, specifications and schematics following the ISO 19650 BIM standard — the international standard for managing information over the whole life cycle of a building.
Hayley Cross, Property Safety Officer for Orbit also won the ‘Rising Star Award’ in recognition of her work to create new tools for prioritising external wall assessments and managing fire risk assessments which have enabled colleagues across the organisation to work more efficiently.
