Housing group Orbit has secured a £104m grant through the Government’s Affordable Homes Programme (2021-2026).
The grant will provide funding for an additional 1,500 much-needed new affordable homes and builds upon Orbit’s successful Strategic Partnership with Homes England, which was announced in November 2018.
Mark Hoyland, Orbit Group Chief Executive, said: “This latest funding allocation supports our ambitious development programme and demonstrates Homes England’s ongoing confidence in our capacity and capability to deliver affordable housing at scale. This news further recognises our commitment to lead in building thriving communities.”
The announcement comes on the back of a number of successes for the housing provider. Earlier this year Orbit became the first social housing developer to have its house designs and design standards successfully matched against the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Safer by design framework, meaning a brand-new home from Orbit will be amongst the safest on the UK market.
The organisation also saw its Willett Gardens development — 35 homes including 25 fully volumetric modular homes produced in partnership with ilke Homes — shortlisted as a finalist in the Inside Housing Development Awards 2021, due to be announced in November.
