Orbit awarded highest possible accolade for its support of armed forces community

Orbit has received the Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Award from the Ministry of Defence for its support of the Armed Forces community.

Orbit demonstrates this commitment through its work with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) who provide job opportunities to veterans and by advertising vacancies which match the skill set of those who’ve left the armed forces on their portal. Reservists are also supported with its ‘time off policy’, enabling colleagues to have time away from the business to carry out any required training without using their allocated annual leave.

Orbit signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant in 2017 and went on to receive an ERS Silver Award in July 2022.

Phil Andrew, Orbit Group Chief Executive commented: “We are really proud to be part of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme and to receive this highest possible accolade for our support of the defence and armed forces communities who sacrifice so much in the service of their country. As a purpose-led and inclusive organisation, we’re committed to providing opportunities to members of the armed forces who can offer a wealth of skills and support our values as an organisation.”

Minister for Defence People, Veterans and Service Families, Dr Andrew Murrison said: “I would like to thank all the organisations that have been recognised in this year’s awards. I’m delighted that we have seen so many organisations recognised with a gold award. Their continued support demonstrates the unique benefits and strengths that our Armed Forces community can bring to the workplace.”

Orbit is also proud to actively celebrate the service of the people living in its properties, for example, by holding special remembrance services in its Independent Living schemes to showcase the stories of customers who have fought to keep everyone safe.
