Specialist housing provider, Grand Union Housing Group, delivers much needed properties for vulnerable Bedford residents.
Grand Union Housing Group, based in Milton Keynes, houses more than 27,000 customers across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire.
Recently, the local not-for-profit organisation worked with Bedford Borough Council to complete 18 specialist modern apartments for adults with mental health needs. The completion of the much-anticipated Gatehouse Mews complex comes as the UK faces a devastating housing crisis and the demand for supported housing is on the rise.
Deborah Stuart, Director of Wellbeing & Safeguarding at Grand Union Housing Group said: “At Grand Union we are not just passionate about building properties but providing houses where vulnerable people can live independently. Through working with local authorities, we are delighted to have completed this milestone complex which will enable those with mental health needs to have their own home.
“As part of our vision to build better lives and stronger communities, every customer in this property has access to our Life24 telecare alarm service which brings a sense of independence by helping them comfortably in their own homes.”
Cllr Wendy Rider, Portfolio Holder for Adults Services at Bedford Borough Council, commented: “It is great to see the opening of these new homes. These 18 properties will provide specialist supported accommodation, enabling people with mental health needs to live independently and creating this much-needed resource locally.”
Gatehouse Mews, built on the old town’s iron works site, was delivered in partnerships with Bedford Borough Council and comes as part of Grand Union’s most successful ever year aiming to build more than 400 homes.
Brilliantly located close to the attractive River Great Ouse, the apartments are only a short walk or cycle to the town centre. Alongside the independent living properties, there are also 31 properties available for rent and shared ownership.
