New Council Houses in Doncaster Land Top LABC Honour

A new development of council homes in Doncaster has been crowned ‘Social Housing Development of the Year’ at the LABC Awards.

The new homes at Bristol Grove, Wheatley won the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) ‘Bricks’ award at a national awards ceremony. The homes have been built in partnership between Doncaster Council, St Leger Homes, Homes England and the developer Willmott Dixon.

The Bricks recognise and reward the exceptional work of developers, builders, contractors and housing associations who go the extra mile, regardless of size, to deliver quality in construction.

Cllr Glyn Jones, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Housing and Equalities, said: “I am proud that one of our sites has won this prestigious award which shows our commitment to delivering the high quality homes needed and wanted by Doncaster residents.

“Since we started our Council House Build Programme in 2013, Doncaster families have moved into over 300 new council homes and with further schemes underway it shows the tremendous progress we are making in providing a mix of affordable housing and council homes suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds.”

Stuart Kerr, Director at Willmott Dixon, added: “We are delighted that the housing development on Bristol Grove achieved national recognition with the Social Housing Development of the Year award. These are just some of the homes we’ve been working on with Doncaster Council and, wherever possible, we use local companies with over 65% of our budget spend going on companies and people within 20 miles of Doncaster.”

The new homes are funded through a combination of Homes England grant and funding allocated from Doncaster Council’s Capital Programme.

The highly acclaimed Bricks awards also recognise the hard work and dedication of individuals behind the scenes who play a vital role in the development projects.  Being shortlisted positions developers of all sizes at the forefront of building excellence.
