New affordable homes to address housing crisis

Residents have moved into their new homes in a Ponders End development. The development, which was enabled by Enfield Council, provides homes for outright sale as well as affordable homes for shared ownership and rent.

Residents were welcomed to Electric Quarter by Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Housing, Cllr Gina Needs, at an informal get together on Saturday (26th February).

The new community benefits from an onsite nursery, children’s play area, a replacement public library as well as commercial, retail and community space.

Enfield Council acquired 75 of the 106 homes available in the second phase from the developer Lovell Partnerships Limited.

Forty-seven are available to residents on the housing needs register at London Affordable Rent and a further 28 are available to buy under the shared ownership scheme — available to first time buyers who currently live and/or work locally in the borough.

The North London Muslim Housing Association has acquired the remaining 31 homes for social rent and shared ownership. These homes will also be prioritised for Enfield residents.

Cllr Needs said: “Electric Quarter is a high-quality development with improved community facilities. It has made a real difference to the area and the quality of housing that is available. It is great to welcome new residents today and I look forward to seeing the new community thrive.”

The Leader of Enfield Council, Cllr Nesil Caliskan, said: “This is another example of how the Council is acting to make new homes available for Enfield residents including giving first time buyers the opportunity to take their first step towards home ownership.

“Our bold house building programme is on track to deliver thousands of new, quality homes in well connected, thriving neighbourhoods for people on a range of incomes.”
