A Nottingham City Homes resident has secured an apprenticeship after receiving support from NCH and Nottingham City Council’s Next Steps project.
After spending a year working on short-term agency contracts, Steven Rovetto (pictured above in his new role) contacted Nottingham Jobs, the city council’s employment and skills service. He was looking to secure a permanent role to give him job security and better prospects.
Steven said: “I attended a number of training courses and had done voluntary work to gain experience, but I was at a point where I really wanted some job security.
“I got in touch with Nottingham Jobs and they helped me get a place on an employment support session that NCH was running. The course was being run to help recruit apprentices for Nottingham City Council. One of the areas that needed apprentices was the catering department and that was of interest to me so I went along.
“Following the session, John at Nottingham Jobs supported me with the application process and when I got invited to the assessment day, he helped me further with preparation and supported me throughout the whole process. I was finally offered an apprenticeship in the catering department at NCC, which was fantastic.”
The Next Steps Project has been developed to help NCH residents find employment or training opportunities, and is aimed at NCH residents who are looking to get back in to work or who want to gain training or work experience to increase their chances of securing a job.
Councillor Sam Webster, Portfolio Holder for Business, Education and Skills at Nottingham City Council, said: “Projects like Next Steps are a great example of how collaborative working between Nottingham City Council and Nottingham City Homes is having a real impact on residents’ lives.
“Nottingham Jobs provides free support to job seekers across Nottingham City and I would encourage anyone who is currently looking for work to contact them to find out about the many services they offer.”
Jo Miller, Employability Manager at Nottingham City Homes, added: “Next Steps is a fairly new project and already we’ve managed to support a number of residents like Steven into work or training.
“It is really important for us to be able to offer this service, and I’d encourage any NCH residents who want to find out more to get in touch.”
The Next Steps project is a partnership between Nottingham City Homes and Nottingham Jobs.
