Muir affordable homes for Cheshire as 29 new properties set sail to Ellesmere Port with Lane End Partnership

A new 29-home development in Ellesmere Port will help Muir Group Housing Association bring more affordable housing to people in the area.

Consisting of 25 two and three-bedroom houses, and four one-bedroom apartments, properties will be made available for affordable rent and shared ownership.

Work has already begun with developers, Lane End Group, to revitalise a former factory site at Cromwell Road; with existing foundations now being removed ahead of the land’s ‘fabulous new future’.

“We’re really pleased to be delivering this scheme,” Alex Fury, Muir’s Assistant Director of Assets and Growth said. “It will create a fabulous new future for this site and hopefully, for new Muir residents too.

“Developments like this are a great example of how Muir helps to transform local areas whilst providing much needed, high quality affordable housing with the support of Homes England funding.

“Muir, Lane End Group and Cheshire West worked really hard to make this scheme happen and I’m excited to watch it progress.”

The development will see four one-bedroom flats, four three-bedroom houses and 15 two-bedroom properties all made available for affordable rent with Muir. Six three-bedroom homes will be provided for shared ownership with Homes By Muir. The development is expected to complete early in 2024.

Lane End Managing Director, Richard Harrison expressed his excitement at teaming up with Muir once again, saying: “Both Muir and Lane End are passionate about investing in people whilst building and nurturing strong new communities. As businesses we share many core values and like ourselves, Muir put these principles into action across everything they do. On a personal level, it is wonderful to be working with Muir once again.

“One of my first projects in the development sector was with Muir — over a decade ago — and looking back it probably laid the foundations that Lane End was ultimately built upon.”

And Lane End Land Director, Scott Ashall, added: “The Cromwell Road project with Muir is a great example of how brownfield land can be developed into quality affordable family housing.

“The site is located within walking distance of the town centre and will offer new residents easy access to many local amenities including shopping and schools.”
