Muir Group is launching its largest single development in years as it promises to provide people in Blackpool with a vital lifeline to affordable living in its golden year.
Muir Group Housing Association says the start of its biggest single housing development in its recent history is a fantastic way to help celebrate its 50th anniversary, while underlining its commitment to tackling the housing crisis.
44 new homes are set to transform an abandoned industrial site at Blackpool’s Watson Road over the next 18 months. Muir’s Executive Director of Operations, Sam Scott, says the properties will provide families with the stability they need as diggers get ready to roll into action during the coming weeks: “This development is a big statement of intent by Muir and underlines our desire to keep moving forward as a dynamic and responsive housing association.
“It represents a huge commitment to people and families in Blackpool and shows Muir’s determination to provide more affordable housing for people in the town.
“As such, all 44 properties will be made available for affordable rent and they will provide security to those struggling to find quality affordable homes.”
The development will consist of 27 two-bedroom and 15 three-bedroom houses, as well as two two-bedroom bungalows, and comes after Muir last year announced that it would increase the number of new homes it builds by up to 75% each year.
Built by MCI Developments and benefiting from Homes England grant funding, preparatory works began on the Watson Road site began earlier this year, with completion expected in Autumn 2019.
Cllr Christine Wright, Cabinet Member for Housing at Blackpool Council, said: “This scheme will deliver new quality family homes that are the most sought after in social housing.
“It will make a positive contribution to meeting affordable local housing needs.”
Muir Group Housing Association is based in Chester with offices in Blackpool, and manages more than 5,000 homes, encompassing 390 properties in the Blackpool local authority area, including rented, shared ownership and supported living accommodation.
