Morgan Sindall Property Services and St Albans City and District Council introduce new training initiative

The new ‘Work to Learn’ programme, known as St Albans Prospex, will officially start on 14th October with trainees being able to sign up to the six-week course from today.

The trainees will start with a three-week classroom based training agenda, covering Health & Safety Construction Skills L1 qualification, Level 1 Certificate in Employability and the industry recognised Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card enabling them access to site.

After this, the trainees will progress onto a three-week work placement where trainees will be partnered with an experienced operative, who will mentor them throughout their apprenticeship, offering them a hands-on learning experience in painting, decorating, plumbing and electrical. On successful completion of the programme, each trainee will receive an interview within our work placement employers, which could lead to a full-time job.

Councillor Jacqui Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Housing, Inclusion and Protection at St Albans City and District Council, said: “I’m delighted to see Morgan Sindall delivering on this work to learn programme. This was part of their winning bid to the Council earlier this year. By offering a planned programme that includes a work placement with our contractor MSPS, we are using our partnerships to help trainees develop, learn new skills and boost their job prospects.”

Through a structured work based training and up skilling, it bridges the gap between young people leaving school and accessing apprenticeships, and provides the support required to help unemployed residents get back into work. I’m delighted to get this programme off the ground and start to see tangible benefits it brings to the St Albans community. Giving back to the communities in which we work, is a huge part of how we do business and we continually look to develop our social value plans, with our clients, to help meet the community’s needs.”
