Laurus Homes announces two new developments in Walkden and Whalley Range

Laurus Homes has announced two new developments comprising 44 new homes at former further education sites — Salford College and St Bede’s College.

The developments will offer a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes on the now-redundant campus sites and will offer a range of homes for sale and rent with options for Help to Buy Equity Loan and Shared Ownership.

The first development, named Pembroke Green, will be situated on the site of Salford College’s former Walkden campus, and is close to several other well-performing schools and colleges to suit those with families. Designed by Clitheroe-based Sunderland Peacock Architects (SPA), this Laurus Homes development is being delivered by Warrington-based contractor Lane End Development Construction (LEDC), and is the latest from the joint venture between Trafford Housing Trust (THT), parent company of Laurus Homes, and London housing association L&Q.

The second development in Whalley Range will be named Scholars Walk in homage to its location on an old St Bede’s College site. The development is located one mile south of Manchester City Centre. Specifically designed by architects Paddock Johnson to fit in with the surrounding neighbourhood, the town houses reflect the local character of villa-style Victorian housing.

Through Laurus Homes, the joint venture aims to build 2,000 new homes across the North-west by 2020, and already have developments underway in Trafford and Manchester. Laurus Homes also recently announced their first projects in Delamere Forest and Daresbury, as they expand into Cheshire.

Larry Gold, Deputy Chief Executive of Trafford Housing Trust, commented: “Pembroke Green and Scholars Walk will provide much-needed new homes for locals across a range of tenures, including shared ownership and rent.

“As a profit-for-purpose organisation, we have been able to use profits made on previous developments to offer more Shared Ownership homes than were required to at planning stage, which we expect to be a big helping hand to locals looking to get on the property ladder.

“Furthermore, this is Laurus Homes’ first development in Walkden, and we are pleased to see that Salford College will be reinvesting all of the proceeds from the sale of its land across all of its campus locations to further benefit those in the local education system.”

The homes at both the Pembroke Green and Scholars Walk sites will be available in late 2018.
