Large development in Coventry is sure sign that housing provision will continue

A development of nearly 200 affordable homes in Coventry will bring much needed housing options thanks to a social housing provider.

Platform Housing Group, who are the largest registered provider in the Midlands, are working with Countryside Partnerships on the site at Sphinx Drive in the east of the city where 196 homes are going to be developed. The dwellings will be provided on an affordable rent or shared ownership basis, allowing people most in need to get a place to call home.

Kate Ellison, Platform’s Director of Land, Partnerships and Business Development said: “We’re delighted to be part of this development that will bring much-needed affordable housing to this part of Coventry. It’s great to be working alongside Countryside and this development is another good example of strong partnership work that will bring great benefits to the overall housing provision for the area. We look forward to being able to offer sustainable, energy-efficient homes to our customers and to supporting the wider community to grow and flourish.”

The group have maintained their ambitious development plan of starting work on 1,300 homes between April 2023 and March 2024.

Kate added: “Despite a challenging marketplace, Platform have been determined to keep building homes, as we know how important the provision of affordable housing is for people in the Midlands. We have a strong set of financial foundations that allow us to continue work on developments across the region and adapt to market factors that have caused delays elsewhere in the sector.”

Adam Sharpe, Managing Director, South West Midlands, Countryside Partnerships, commented: “Vistry is committed to building mixed-tenure communities in partnership with fantastic organisations like Platform Housing. Together, we are transforming this site into a fantastic place to live which will provide real opportunities for people living in the area to own an affordable home and become part of a vibrant new community.”
