J Tomlinson wins contract to deliver improvements to homes in the North

J Tomlinson has partnered with one of the largest property management and regeneration companies in the UK to deliver capital and planned improvement works to homes across the North of England.

The maintenance, refurbishment and construction services partner was announced as the successful tenderer for lot 1 of Places for People Group’s Major Works contract after ranking first place in a rigorous tender process and demonstrating best value, innovation and commitment to excellence.

The four-year contract – which has the potential to be extended by up to six years – will see J Tomlinson covering a multitude of sub regions, including the North East (Tyneside, Northumberland, Newcastle-upon-Tyne), North West (Greater Manchester, Cheshire, North West Lancashire), Yorkshire and the East Midlands (Nottingham, Leicester, Lincoln).

Works comprise elemental replacements, heating and insulation upgrades, energy efficiency works, as well as kitchen and bathroom refurbishments – all of which will be undertaken in accordance with specialist programmes designed to help further enhance Places for People’s property portfolio. A leading provider to the social housing sector, J Tomlinson has worked in partnership with Derwent Living – one of the subsidiary organisations comprising Places for People – since 2014.

As a result of J Tomlinson’s increased expansion into the North of the UK, the company has opened two new offices to support contract delivery; one in Billingham, near Stockton-on-Tees, and another in the market town Newton-le-Willows, in Merseyside. These latest new openings follow the launch of J Tomlinson’s third office last year, in Wakefield, to support its growth across Yorkshire, and brings the company’s total number of key locations to five.

Antony Newton, regeneration director at J Tomlinson, commented: “We are excited to partner with Places for People and to support them in their mission to build sustainable communities.

“Following a successful mobilisation period, we are pleased to have commenced with works, and look forward to delivering improvement works to residents’ homes over the next four years. Our new offices in the North West and North East will be instrumental in aiding smooth contract delivery.”

Alan Heron, director of procurement at Places for People, added: “We’re delighted to be working with J Tomlinson on our Major Works program, after appointing them via the Procurement Hub’s Property Works Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS). J Tomlinson were appointed following a rigorous tender process, and we look forward to working in partnership with them to deliver the efficiencies and savings identified during the process over the coming years.”

Nottingham-based J Tomlinson operates primarily across South Yorkshire, the East Midlands and the West Midlands, offering a range of building services, which include construction, mechanical and electrical (M&E) services, facilities management, refurbishment, repairs and maintenance and regeneration. The firm works closely with the social housing sector, with clients including Bromford, Ashfield District Council, Nottingham City Homes, South Yorkshire Housing Association, emh homes, Bromford, Midland Heart and Derwent Living.
