The award-winning partnership between J Tomlinson and Ashfield District Council is set to continue the renewal of a five-year housing refurbishment contract.
The contract, which is due to commence in autumn, will see J Tomlinson undertaking a wide range of improvements to the Council’s 7,000-strong housing stock, which predominantly spans the three main towns of Sutton-in-Ashfield, Hucknall and Kirkby-in-Ashfield, as well as small percentage of rural homes.
Works will include kitchens, bathroom and central heating replacements, electrical installations, upgrades to windows, doors, roofing and rendering, as well as asbestos surveying and removal.
A significant element of the newly-reinstated partnership will focus on improving the environmental efficiency of homes across the Ashfield district, helping the Council reduce the carbon footprint of its housing stock in line with 2050 government net zero carbon targets and create ‘cleaner and greener’ communities, with schemes such as external wall insulation.
J Tomlinson has re-secured this contract after holding the incumbent position since commencing the original partnership back in 2015. Over the course of the five-year partnership, significant achievements have been made, for example taking home the Collaborative Working title at EEM’s 2018 Building Communities Awards.
The contract was procured via a comprehensive tender process with J Tomlinson obtaining the highest quality and pricing scores across the board. Key areas in which the building, refurbishment and maintenance specialist demonstrated its strengths as a services partner included health and safety, environmental sustainability, and employment and skills.
Some of the initiatives that J Tomlinson has committed to undertaking over the next five years as part of its ‘Accelerating Ashfield’ programme include supporting local employment and skill building, establishing links with local schools and charities, and working together to offset carbon emissions.
Ant Newton, Managing Director of J Tomlinson’s regeneration division, commented: “We are thrilled to be able to continue our partnership with Ashfield District Council — one of J Tomlinson’s longest-standing clients. As part of our renewed relationship, we will continue to work together with the Council to support them in enhancing the communities of Ashfield with high-quality, industry-leading housing services, upgrading and future-proofing homes across the district.”
Cllr Tom Hollis, Ashfield District Council Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with J Tomlinson. We are committed to investing in our housing stock and providing good quality social housing to our tenants.
“Over the next four years the partnership will see the delivery of major repair and improvement works to maintain the Council’s housing stock in good condition and meeting the needs of the customer, including reducing fuel poverty and carbon emissions.”
