Islington Council appoints Mears to manage the planned maintenance of council homes

Islington Council has agreed its new housing contract with Mears Group to manage the planned maintenance of council homes in the borough.

The new four-year contract, which is valued at circa £12m per annum, includes a possible extension of a further six years and will continue to deliver cyclical repairs, preventative maintenance and improvements in energy efficiency and fire protection works for the council from 1st April in the East of the borough.

The new contract reflects the excellence in service delivery, low complaints and effective budget control that Mears has made in delivering repairs and maintenance to approximately 15,000 council homes over the last decade.

Theo Petrou, Islington’s General Manager for Mears Group, said: “We are delighted to extend our excellent relationship with Islington Council. This is further validation of our hard work and service that we have provided our client for the last 10 years.

“We place social value at the heart of our business, and we look forward to working with our client & customers to develop shared objectives as to how we can contribute back into the community, especially on our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint.

“Mears is not just a contractor, but a local employer and our operatives are members of the community in which we will be working.

“We are looking forward to working with Islington Council and will continue to provide an excellent service to our client, customers and community.”
