A leading national provider of Extra Care and Retirement Living has strengthened its presence across London following the successful acquisition of seven Extra Care schemes for older people.
Housing 21 has added an additional 427 properties to its portfolio after acquiring the Extra Care schemes from Notting Hill Genesis. The portfolio includes a large social care service and up to 300 employees who have successfully transferred and who will continue to provide high quality Extra Care support to residents.
The deal marks the largest transfer of Extra Care in the sector in recent years. Acquisitions form a key part of Housing 21’s growth and commitment to providing high quality housing with support or care for older people of modest means.
In conjunction with its acquisition plans, Housing 21 continues to prioritise investment into its existing homes while also delivering on its development plans to provide up to 400 new homes for older people each year.
Tony Tench, Deputy Chief Executive at Housing 21, said: “We’re really pleased to welcome our new residents and colleagues. This transfer from Notting Hill Genesis is particularly exciting for us, as we expand into London, where there is a real need to improve and increase the provision of Extra Care housing for those older people who need it most.
“With a proven track record of providing high-quality housing with support or care for older people, Housing 21 is well placed to take on additional Extra Care and Retirement Living schemes, allowing general needs providers to focus on their core business. We are all operating in a challenging economic environment right now and as a sector we all need to play to our strengths to provide high quality homes and services for our residents.”
Robert East, Director of Care and Support at Notting Hill Genesis added: “We are incredibly proud of our work over decades in providing Extra Care services to those who need them across London and the south-east and we remain one of London’s largest providers of supported and older people’s housing services.
“We will miss the residents and employees when they transfer, but we know they are being left in safe hands and wish them all the best for the future. Our decision to transfer the services to Housing 21 followed a thorough selection process which involved our residents, and in the end, they were the outstanding bidder.”
The schemes included in the transfer include Elgin Close, Mildmays, Penfold Court, Conrad Court, Cheviot Gardens, Mitchison Court and Turnberry Court.
A further scheme, Minterne Apartments which comprises 60 apartments, will transfer from Notting Hill Genesis to Housing 21 in March.
