Higgins won a number of awards at this year’s Considerate Constructors National Site Awards. The company has been awarded two gold awards for Colville Estate in Hackney and King Square in Islington, a silver award, also for Colville Estate and a bronze for Peterhead Court in Southall.
The awards recognise those sites registered with the Scheme that have raised the bar for considerate construction. The sites must demonstrate an appreciation of the impact of their work on the community, the environment and their workforce and the CCS rewards the UK’s most considerate sites for their contribution.
The judges stated that gold and silver winner Colville Estate site “demonstrated an outstanding commitment to improving the image of construction, achieving exemplary standards in all areas of the Code of Considerate Practice.”
They go on to say that, “this site is a credit to the industry. Among the many highlights were the excellent condition of the site and the commitment shown to the community. Previously unemployed people found work on the site and new opportunities were strongly promoted.”
On King Square the judges said: “This outstanding site focused substantially on community engagement; maintaining regular contact with a local school and nursery and supporting two community art projects, involving school children and the over 55s. It also watered the residents’ public gardens during the hot weather and even provided gardening tools.”
On winning bronze at Peterhead Court, the judges stated: “This site has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to improving the image of construction, achieving exemplary standards in all areas of the Code of Considerate Practice.”
Steve Leakey, Managing Director of Higgins commented: “Winning a National Site Award is an exceptional achievement because it recognises those sites that have made the greatest contribution towards improving the image of construction so we are extremely proud to have received four awards this year. “
Considerate Constructors Scheme Chief Executive, Edward Hardy added: “Each award winning site should be extremely proud of receiving this prestigious industry accolade. Year-on-year, the Scheme places a higher level of expectation for the 7,000 plus construction sites typically registered with the Scheme at any time.
“We are always amazed by the increasing levels of performance on site across the country, and we look forward to performance continuing to increase through next year and beyond.”
