The UK’s first and largest wet and dry Passivhaus leisure centre has undergone its next milestone moment, as installation commences on two new modular pools that will help drive cost and energy efficiency savings.
International pool provider Myrtha Pools is behind the installation at Spelthorne Leisure Centre in Staines, which will include the UK’s first screwjack moveable floor — utilised in the 25m pool for a variety of exercise, class and relaxation purposes, dependent on programme need.
Leading independent construction and property services company Willmott Dixon is driving the main £43.5m project construction, working in collaboration with GT3 Architects and Spelthorne Borough Council. Once complete, the leisure centre is aiming to consume up to 60% less energy compared with a standard new leisure build.
A learner pool, splash pad and spa will also be part of the project mix delivered under the Myrtha Pools banner.

Spelthorne Leisure Centre follows the UK’s first wet-only Passivhaus leisure centre at St Sidwell’s Point, which opened in spring 2022.
The current build, which is set across a 100,000ft2 footprint, is on track for summer 2024 completion, with internal works and installation well underway.
