Aileen Evans, Chief Executive of local housing provider Grand Union Housing Group, took part in the CEO Sleepout at Stadium MK on Thursday 7th November to raise money for charities that support rough sleepers.
Aileen was one of many CEOs, business leaders, executives and managers who all braved the cold to spend the night sleeping outdoors to raise awareness and much needed funds to fight homelessness and poverty.
Aileen said: “Nationally there are around 5,000 people sleeping rough on any one night. At the last count there were 41 in this situation in Milton Keynes. I can’t imagine what it must be like and how desperate people must be to sleep out in freezing temperatures night after night.
“A proportion of what we raise at the Milton Keynes event will be going to the Milton Keynes YMCA, a charity close to my heart. I served as a voluntary Board member there for 13 years and the work they do to provide the night shelter is nothing short of amazing. However the YMCA do much more than this. From next year, when their new building is finished, they will be providing nearly 200 young people with a home, support to find a job and help with life skills so they don’t end up sleeping rough.”
CEO Sleepout was formed in December 2013 and to date the events have raised £2.2m for charities that work to tackle poverty and homelessness across the UK.
