ForHousing has started on site at Mayfield Avenue, Walkden with an 18-home development comprising of 12 one-bedroom homes and six two-bedroom homes, all for social rent.
Amidst a housing crisis where in Salford alone there are over 4,000 people on the waiting list for a home, the 18 new homes being built will provide much-needed truly affordable housing.
With a total scheme value of £3.2m, the development has received £1.3m in external funding from Homes England and is set for completion in summer 2025.
Nigel Sedman, Executive Director of Homes at ForHousing, said: “Having recently marked a decade of building new high-quality affordable homes across Salford, it’s fantastic to get this development off the ground.
“We’re committed to making a positive impact in the local community and on the lives of social housing tenants. This latest new-build scheme is a testament to our pledge to help meet the pressing need for truly affordable, quality, well-maintained homes where tenants feel safe and secure.
“Over the past 10 years, ForHousing has delivered more than 1,000 homes in Salford, and we are continuing to work closely with Salford City Council to identify and address the need for more social homes for rent in the area.”
Deputy City Mayor Councillor Tracy Kelly, Lead Member for Housing, Property and Regeneration commented: “We’re all acutely aware of the urgent need for increased social housing in Salford and so this new development is a welcome addition.
“There’s always more to be done, but it’s really positive to see a shared commitment across the city to increase the level of social housing stock that is available to Salford residents.
“Together we must work to get to a position where we can ensure that every individual and families have access to good quality social housing that meets their needs.”
